It´s hardly legal now – but most have to admit that when the new media superusers mash up “The Ten Commandments”, “Desperate Housewives” and George Bush with the trailerformat, Mickey Mouse and U2 something very intriguing and new happens. And the internet traffic shows that it´s a form of entertainment thats craved by many.
Like it or not – you have to ask yourself, is it really possible to keep the kind of distribution- and copyrights we know now? And is it really what we want? If parts of the attention goes to the mashed up media, maybe that can become the new -and indirect- source of marketing for the old media, and a way to keep itself in the eye of the young media users.
Or maybe it can become an endless battle between copyright lawyers and the new content providers. Both potentials are there.
